BUILD AN UNSHAKABLE SELF-CONFIDENCE

Having trouble believing in yourself? Many people struggle with coming out to showcase their capabilities because they lack the confidence to do so. Self-doubt is a parasite that is killing a lot of potential, and the scary part is it isn’t spoken about most time.

One must first understand that confidence isn’t generic; it is an attribute you consciously build as you grow. Confidence is necessary in your day-to-day activities, whether it is chasing your dreams or speaking up in public, confidence is paramount.

What is confidence?
To build your confidence, you must first understand what it is you’re trying to build. Confidence has often been misunderstood to be arrogance or perfection when it is neither of those. Confidence is the ability to trust in yourself even when you don’t know what you’re about. It is the ability to be able to bounce back after failure; it is also the ability to believe in yourself and see yourself as worthy and capable of great things and achievements. You should be able to get yourself going not requiring validation from anyone. That is CONFIDENCE

  To build your confidence, you must first assess yourself, your personality, and personhood. Especially if you’ve been through trauma either from childhood or in your mature age. You should be able to sit and address these issues because they’re the ones that fuel self-doubt. You should be able to ask yourself the difficult questions, like;
 1. Am I harsh on myself?
 2. Do I compare myself with others?
Ponder over these questions and pen your answers down. Writing them down would allow you to revisit them and track your progress.

One effective factor that helps build confidence is “ repetition “. Praise yourself constantly for even the most minute wins and every progress you make. You should make it a conscious effort to challenge your comfort zone. Step out of it, challenge yourself to speak up during meetings, ask questions in class, and talk to a stranger; these are all simple ways to build your confidence.
The next thing you have to do is reprogram the voice in you that keeps telling you you’re not enough. Start thinking and acting like a winner, believe you’re worthy and more than enough. Remember, you have to make these efforts conscious and intentional.

Building confidence is not only about changing your mentality. Your posture and body language equally play an important role in building your confidence. Try as much as possible to make eye contact when talking, it’s not going to be easy, but you have to start from somewhere, don’t speak hurriedly and fumble, but relax and speak slowly, also try hitting the gym. The gym has a very unique way of building one’s confidence through posture and physique.

The next thing to do is get yourself some good company. Surround yourself with positive people and people who would encourage you to be the better version of yourself. You are affected by your environment, and the traits of the people you walk with are often what you exhibit.
Spend a lot of time with people who encourage and uplift you. Confidence becomes numb in toxic environments.

The fact that you’ve started your journey to building your confidence does not mean there won’t be times you’d fail. Even confident people fail sometimes. The difference is that the confident person would always pick themselves up and keep going. Keep showing up and take note, building confidence is not an act that happens overnight. Be intentional and keep repeating the processes listed above, and you should be set to start walking and living in confidence.
